7 Ways to Become a Champion in Your Community

An American Graduate Champion commits their time, skills and resources to make sure that young people succeed. He or she is an individual who plays an active role in improving educational outcomes for students. A champion is a parent who is active in the lives of young people or a volunteer who creates a positive environment daily for youth in their community.

 

What are some concrete ways you can become a Champion in your community? WNET New York Public Media compiled a list of seven simple steps to become an American Graduate Champion:

1. Read with a child.

2. Mentor a young person.

3. Volunteer with a youth program.

4. Reach out to someone with special needs.

5. Take a child to a science exhibit.
